Deep Drawing for Manufacture of Demanding Sheet Metal Components

Deep drawing is an efficient method for manufacturing three-dimensional sheet metal components. The method makes it possible to produce complicated shapes accurately and cost-effectively.

Meconet’s deep drawing technology is suitable for a wide variety of applications. We combine deep drawing, further processing, and assembly into a functional manufacturing solution.

Support for deep drawn product design

When it comes to design of deep drawn components, consideration of the manufacturing technology is important. The right structural solutions can improve the manufacturability and cost-efficiency of both the product and the tools throughout the product’s entire life cycle.

As part of the design, we assess what should be considered in a component to make it as suitable as possible for deep drawing. This way, cost-effectiveness, manufacturability, and functionality of the final product can be ensured. Deep drawn components can often replace welded structures, and we can support the customer’s design process and finding the right solution.

We will also help with choosing the right material, taking into account the requirements for formability, strength, and intended use. Furthermore, we are responsible for the design and manufacture of the optimal deep drawing tool.

Efficient deep drawing production

The deep drawing technology is particularly suitable for serial production of sheet metal components and allows the manufacture of light but durable structures. Benefits of the method include consistent quality and cost-effectiveness. Prototypes and small series can also be manufactured using various tool solutions and moulding methods.

Our deep drawing process is suitable for materials with a thickness of 0.5–6.0mm and a maximum blank size of 2×2.7m. Our wide range of deep drawing presses allows optimizing production in case of both small and large components.

Deep drawing is also a material-efficient manufacturing method, as it enables the design of lightweight structures, and material volume is one of the key factors in reducing the carbon footprint of a product.

Modern technology: servo-controlled deep drawing press

Modern deep drawing presses provide for a more precise and flexible manufacturing process. For example, our big 1,600T servo press allows moulding speed optimization and highly accurate moulding pressure control. The servo press can be used on blank sizes up to 2×2.7m. Automated material handling boosts production efficiency and reduces manual work.

Owing to servo control, we can utilize material more efficiently, improve dimensional accuracy, and manufacture lighter but stronger structures. At the same time, more diverse shapes can be implemented and uniform, seamless complete units manufactured, which trims down the number of parts and assembly operations.
