A new iLOQ product development project ran into major spring design challenges.Meconet stepped in with a solution that ensured both product functionality and a timely market launch.
iLOQ is a Finnish company specializing in digital access control solutions. It develops smart, durable locking systems that utilize self-powered technology – in other words, they do not require batteries or cabling to function.
In autumn 2024, the iLOQ design team faced an issue with the spring mechanism of a new product. The standard spring, which had been used as a benchmark for dimensioning, failed to perform as expected, putting the project at risk. The solution was found in co-operation with Meconet.
– I had been following the challenges from the sidelines and decided to arrange a meeting with Teemu Puoliväli, Manager of Meconet’s Pihtiputaa plant. During our 30-minute meeting, Teemu assured us that within a week, they could provide three different spring prototypes for iLOQ to test, recalls Pekka Hassi, Senior Sourcing Manager at iLOQ.

“Our skilled team at the Pihtipudas plant implemented the prototypes quickly and flexibly.”
The promise was fulfilled: within a week, the right spring was identified, tested, and successfully integrated into the product — now available on the market. The spring solution served as a testament to Meconet’s professionalism and expertise. On behalf of Meconet, Teemu Puoliväli as the Plant Manager, Teijo Haapapuro and Tero Kemppainen participated in the design.
– During the meeting, we analysed the causes of the problem and presented our solutions right then and there. Our professional team at the Pihtiputaa plant swiftly and flexibly developed the prototypes, which was crucial, given the tight schedule, Puoliväli says.
– After the meeting, when it became clear that the problem could actually be solved, I was overwhelmed with joy. Teemu is a true “spring wizard”, recalls Artturi Mantila, Mechanical Engineer at iLOQ.
Building trust and strengthening collaboration
The partnership between Meconet and iLOQ began in 2019, when the companies first explored potential collaboration. Initially, this involved minor tests, projects and prototypes. However, Meconet quickly demonstrated its capabilities, proving to be the right partner for long-term cooperation.
The collaboration is not limited to individual projects. iLOQ values a comprehensive partnership that prioritizes quality management and production agility. Naturally, the shared Finnish roots of both companies further strengthen the connection. Meconet has successfully met these expectations.
“I am really satisfied with Meconet’s expertise and willingness to help. Their expertise is vast.”
– Meconet has become a trusted partner for both me and iLOQ’s R&D team. Not once have we failed to solve a problem together. I am really satisfied with Meconet’s expertise and willingness to help. Their expertise is vast, and Meconet’s open way of operation and ability to focus on the customer’s needs have made an impression. In my opinion, when it comes to cooperation, early supplier involvement in product development is crucial. It significantly shortens product development time and saves money – and resources, of course. We can free up our own design resources and entrust the design of spring mechanisms to Meconet, Hassi says.
Teemu Puoliväli from Meconet sees design collaboration as the key to long-term relationships.
– Our commitment to solving customer challenges builds trust. Our customers know they can always rely on us to support them with their challenges, Puoliväli says.
